More about Matt's military career:

Matt joined the Royal Navy in 1987 straight from school at the tender age of just 16! Having trained as an Acoustic Analyst in the Operations Department, Matt went on to specialise in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW). Matt was privileged to be drafted to the New HMS Coventry, a state of the art Type 22 Anti Submarine Frigate. Matt spent the following three years of life onboard the ‘Cov’ performing NATO exercises and a 7 month deployment to the Gulf War in 1989. On leaving HMS Coventry, Matt went on to serve Flag Officer Portsmouth before receiving a new draft to another brand new ship, HMS Marlborough. Marlborough was one of the latest Type 23 ‘Duke Class’ ASW frigates but a little smaller than the Type 22’s. Matt decided to leave the Navy in 92 and served his 18 months notice. Prior to leaving, his final sea draft was on board HMS Beaver, one of the sister ships to Coventry.
